Welcome to Citizenship
Citizenship Department
At Madani School Federation, our KS4 GCSE Citizenship Curriculum is deeply rooted in our HEART values (Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect, and Team) and is designed to nurture both the heart and mind of our students. Our aim is to develop politically literate, active, and responsible citizens who are passionate about making meaningful contributions to their communities, democracy, and society at large.
The curriculum we offer is both challenging and stimulating, encouraging students to find their voice, form their own informed opinions, and contribute thoughtfully to important societal discussions. Citizenship at Madani is a powerful subject that builds knowledge in key areas such as human rights, the law, politics, and global issues. It empowers students to explore how they can be active participants in their communities and the wider world.
Students encounter Citizenship learning within the Personal Development curriculum, and they have the option to take Citizenship GCSE an academically rigorous and popular choice. The curriculum not only challenges students to achieve their potential but also inspires them to consider future careers in fields such as Law and Politics. Our Citizenship curriculum is thoughtfully designed to develop deep knowledge in core concepts including Democracy and Government, Fairness and Justice, and Rights and Responsibilities, fostering open-minded, critical thinkers who can confidently question and analyse what they see, read, and hear.
Through engaging in debates on controversial and topical issues, students learn to be more respectful, developing skills in advocacy and debate. Active campaigning and whole-school event planning further instil a sense of teamwork, political literacy, and social responsibility. This helps our students become streetwise, equipping them with the skills to negotiate, advocate, and think critically about the world they live in.
At Madani, we are committed to shaping young change-makers who can apply their skills and knowledge in a wide range of contexts, including future careers. We encourage our students to think proactively about their futures, whether they are considering A-Levels, apprenticeships, or degrees.
