Options

Options

KS4 options are a key part in the academic journey of our students as they make key decisions about their next steps in the form of training, further education and ultimately their career paths. We believe that all subjects should be on offer for all pupils across the federation, and have worked hard to refine our provision to offer a broad and rich curriculum for all students..

The options table below illustrates the options subjects available to our students,

English Baccalaureate

Our Key Stage 4 offer, directs students towards clear pathways to achieving the EBacc (English Baccalaureate) - the government initiative to provide students with a strong and internally competitive education, through a suite of subjects achieved through options - a language, humanities (Geography or History) as well core subjects including the sciences, English language and literature, and maths. At present we are on target to achieve the national ambition of 90% of students studying the EBacc by 2025.

Choosing options

During the selection process, support is provided to students, parents and carers across multiple levels to ensure that all decisions made are well informed and directly related to a students ambitions and intentions. We provide an options evening, assemblies, careers guidance and support, as well as subject specific insight for students and parents. Allocations are made as part of a considered collaborative process, examining students reasons for selection, progress over time along with other sources of information available to faculty and school leads. The vast majority of students achieve all of their first choice options.

Further information

Key dates are communicated during the academic year. Each year our KS4 Options booklet can be used as a source of information and is refined and updated prior to being shared with parents. Please feel free to refer to the 2024 booklet as a reference prior to the release of the 2025 edition.
